Deer

Okay, so i don't live in Reno directly anymore. I did, and i enjoyed it, and would move back as soon as I can buy a house. I currently live on 3 acres in Verdi (10 miles from downtown) that my parents bought 2 years ago. That 10 miles is closer to downtown than the southern end of reno. I take care of the property. It's a sweet deal. It is directly adjacent to Toiyabe National Forest. So when i said Mountain Biking from my backyard, i REALLY meant it.

I just found one of the drawbacks to living in the country though. An injured deer wandered onto the property, and Tucker, my dog, got ahold of it. didn't shred it, we got him off the deer before he could really hurt it, just ripped some of the fur right out of the skin. Yes, he left the skin. Didn't tear it open.

The deer was badly injured previously, and maybe even sick. How it got onto the property over the fence in the first place is a mystery. Anyway, it needed to be put down. I don't own guns. Neither do my neighbors.

I called the sherrif, and they tried to find someone to come out and put the poor thing out of it's misery. Before you ask, no, i don't have it in me to grab it's head and break it's neck myself.

Melany and I were a little upset that it took 24 hours of calling around to finally get someone out there that could legally discharge a firearm in a rural area.

Of course, someone else firing a gun in that area would have gotten the sherrif out there real quick, know what i mean? ;)

It was a big nightmare, and we felt really bad for the deer, but we are glad it was finally put down.

As much as we love watching deer, neither of us really want the deer back in our yard real soon.
