Reno
Yeah, i live in reno. You may wonder (most do) why. Well shit man, i am 40-45 minutes from Lake Tahoe. That's the north end of the lake. That's where all the ski resorts are. So, i have access to some of the premiere resorts in the world within 45 minutes. Don't kid yourself. Tahoe IS a world destination area.
So why don't i live up at the lake?
Well, it's expensive up there. Not as much work for computer people, and why the hell would i willing choose to live somewhere where i have to dig myself out after every storm to move my car.
Sure reno gets a little snow, but it is in the rain shadow of the sierras. The back side.
once every 10 years does it dump snow super heavy in reno. This may be that year, but still, you generally don't shovel out after a storm in reno.
Ok, then there is the shopping. Reno is not that bad for shopping. Not that great, but not that bad.
Gas prices. Cheaper than in the bay area. Why? because we don't get our gas trucked up here, jacking the price. There is a fuel pipeline that runs from the refineries in the Vallejo/Martinez up to Sparks. Sparks is right next to Reno. Genereally referred to as the Reno/Sparks area. Our fuel comes to a storage facility in Sparks, and is distributed all around the area. The gas is cheapest in Sparks. Up at the lake, it's highway robbery. Another reason not to live up there.
Summer sports. You name it. It's here.
there are a dozen lakes close enough to water ski or wakeboard on if you are down for that. So many people own boats up here, it's pretty easy to go with someone to partake in any powerboat water sport you like. Of course there is plenty of sailing too.
Mountain Biking from my backdoor. So many trails, so little time, so outta shape. Yeah, i am in sorry shape, but doesn't stop me from biking the trails.
Hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing. Do them all. and some four wheeling.
yes, for someone that does most of these things, reno is pretty ideal.
And if you have never driven through anypart of reno other than downtown, then seriously, you have no right to have an opinion on what reno is like.
yes, i said you have NO RIGHT to form an opinion of reno based on teh downtown area. That casino section is so small, compared to the acreage that actually is reno. You have never seen the neighborhoods. You have never seen the parks. You haven't seen where people actually live and shop. You haven't seen Reno.
You come, i will drive you around, show you where people live, show you where i live, THEN you can form an opinion.
Ok, that's it. i am just tired of people asking me why i live in reno.
Renoi ain't Vegas. and for that i am truly truly grateful.
