what could be more important than blogging?

Why oh why have i not written. you don't care. nobody really cares about this, a semi-therapeutic writing exercise.
So, since nobody cares, i will answer the question. Stopping the spam coming through my server!!!!
that is what is more important.

Spam (UCE) is plentiful. the zombie bots are plentiful, and it just keeps coming. So, in an effort to NOT mess with the 350 users on my server, and their email, i have carefully and painstakingly been installing and testing antivirus and spam filtering mechanisms. It takes hours at a time sometimes to get this stuff tweaked just right. then you have to change the settings of your mail server software. Then you have to turn off the mail server software to acitvate the antispam/virus software.

yes. you have to turn off the mail server software. then you turn it on again. (no email messages were harmed in the setting up of this mail server)
then you test, making sure that no mail gets deleted (not even the spam) and that it all gets delivered. if something goes wrong. you shut it down, remove the antispam/virus, and start it up again.

then you tweak the configuration files for the antispam/virus software again, and do the whole stop install start thing again.

over and over and over until it works.

yes, that is what has been occupying my free time (defined as those moments that i simply can't bear to work - when i am supposed to be working, and my girlfriend is not around - when i am not working)
